📺 FreedomProject is proud to present this FREE four-week lecture series by Dr. Duke Pesta entitled, “The Peanuts Gang: A Promise of Christian Redemption.”
For fifty years, Charles Schulz drew the most influential comic strip in the world. Key to the enduring success of Peanuts is the characters’ deep connection to the most poignant elements of human nature: crushing despair and joyful exuberance. These are also the defining emotions of Christian experience: the hopelessness of our fallen existence, and the exaltation of our redemption in Christ. By embodying these existential responses in little children, Schulz magnifies emotional impact and reveals deep truths about the human condition.

On a shoe string budget they work hard to keep our government’s spending visible to the public & offer suggestions on how our government can both reduce in size & cost.

Information is on their flyer below & if you decide to go or just send a donation tell them that Theresa Tillett sent you

West Indian Independence Concert & Parade Hartford 2016

Sharing is Caring so Please Share:

Come on out to Bushnell Park in Hartford & CELEBRATE Independence!
At the 54th Anniversary Greater Hartford West Indian Independence Celebration

Flyer WIIC 2016

The Celebrations will be confined to Bushnell Park and will not traverse the Main Street and Asylum Street routes as was customary in prior years. Unfortunately, this will result in the exclusion of large vehicles and floats from this event.

The event will feature a “Parade of Bands” which will showcase marching bands, drill teams, masqueraders, and dance troupes. Each section will be assigned a number and will be lined up accordingly. The participants are expected to be in place by 11 a.m., with a step off time of 12 p.m. At that time, each section will be called up to “cross the stage” where they will be will be viewed by the audience as well as a panel of judges. The “Parade of Bands” will continue until 3 p.m. This will be immediately followed by the concert which will feature a host of locally based talent as well as international artistes.

This year, the Committee is pleased to welcome Serani and Jamesy P once again, as they recognize the 5th year of the Celebrations in Bushnell Park. Both Serani and Jamesy P were the main acts during the 2011 Celebrations in Bushnell Park.

In addition to the wonderful reggae performance which Serani will deliver and the upbeat soca performance which St. Vincent native, Jamesy P, is known for, the audience can expect to be entertained by our MC, the illustrious comedian, Boasyboy Floyd. Also present will be the Request Band representing Trinidad & Tobago, Sexxi Marissa performing Guyanese Chutney, Hartford based entertainers Dajah and Alandon, Sekuence and many more to announced.

Last but not least, the legendary reggae superstar, Shinehead, will be performing live on stage. Shinehead is largely credited as being one of the original artistes to merge hip-hop with reggae music. His best known single was the cover version of Sting’s “Englishman in New York”, re-titled as “Jamaican in New York” (1993). It reached #30 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1993. With his dynamic and diverse talents, Shinehead promises to bring an element of flair to the event that will send longtime fans into a euphoric nostalgia, and create new fans among the youthful generations.

Spectators can expect to find various food vendors selling jerk chicken and other traditional delectables, as well as colorful wares from artists and crafts vendors. This is a free, all day family affair in a friendly carnival atmosphere. The Committee urges the entire community to come out and enjoy the festivities in our very own Bushnell Park here in Hartford. Come out & support small CT business men & women while having a great time.

The West Indian Independence Celebrations has hosted a parade every year since its inception in 1962.
The event relies heavily on grants and fundraising efforts.

The Committee is appealing to the public for their support by way of donations, placing ads in the annual journal or by signing up to become a volunteer.
A GoFundMe page has been set up at www.gofundme.com/242znck.

For more information about becoming a sponsor, advertiser, volunteer, vendor, participant, or for performance related questions please contact the officers the website at www.wiichartford.org or FaceBook page at www.facebook.com/wiic.hartford.
